Staff DevOps Engineer, Developer Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish and lead the technical roadmap for Demandbase's Internal Developer Platform.

• Create and review RFCs and design documents that are adopted by various teams.

• Serve as an architecture reviewer for changes affecting infrastructure across the organization.

• Act as the escalation point for critical production incidents related to platform infrastructure.

• Facilitate retrospectives and translate insights into structural improvements.

• Mentor senior and staff-level engineers across multiple teams.

• Oversee and enhance the Internal Developer Platform, including Backstage catalogs, golden-path scaffolder templates, and CI/CD components.

• Collaborate with software, data, security, and product engineering leadership to mitigate systemic SDLC friction through automation and platform abstraction.

• Define, assess, pilot, and implement safe AI-assisted development workflows.

• Manage CI/CD orchestration architecture utilizing GitLab CI/CD and shared CI/CD components.

• Standardize build, test, and deployment methodologies across application and data workloads.

• Develop and refine GitOps-based deployment strategies.

• Oversee the architecture and lifecycle of multi-cluster Kubernetes platforms across environments, including EKS, GKE, upgrades, Karpenter, networking, and security posture.

• Manage multi-account cloud IAM, networking, and security architecture.

• Drive the Infrastructure-as-Code strategy using Terraform and Crossplane.

• Oversee Istio service mesh architecture across multi-cluster environments.

• Own core platform components such as GitOps tooling, secrets management, and service mesh as production systems.

• Direct the observability platform strategy using Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana, Loki, Mimir, and Thanos.

• Manage the FinOps practice for platform infrastructure, focusing on cost visibility, unit economics, and waste reduction.

• Define and enhance organization-wide SLIs/SLOs and incident response practices.

• Promote a blameless postmortem culture at the organizational level.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of overall engineering experience.

• Significant hands-on software development experience with Go, Python, or Java.

• More than 7 years of experience building and operating cloud infrastructure at scale.

• Proven technical leadership across multiple teams, including cross-team RFCs, architectural decisions, or platform strategies.

• Extensive hands-on experience designing and managing multi-account, multi-cluster Kubernetes platforms in production using EKS and/or GKE at significant scale.

• Strong expertise with Terraform and Crossplane.

• Proficient in GitOps practices using Flux or Argo CD.

• Deep experience in designing and managing CI/CD systems; GitLab CI/CD is preferred.

• Practical experience with Istio service mesh in multi-cluster environments, including security and traffic policy.

• Strong background in building and managing observability platforms using Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana, Loki/Mimir/Thanos.

• Working knowledge of container and software supply-chain security practices, including image scanning, hardened base images, and vulnerability remediation.

• Experience in managing or significantly contributing to cloud cost governance or FinOps.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted or agentic development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex.

• Solid understanding of SLIs, SLOs, alerting strategies, and incident response.

• Experience in leading blameless postmortems.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience supporting data pipeline or batch platforms such as Airflow, EMR, or Dataproc is a plus.

• Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.

• Must provide specific United States work authorization status.

• Must answer application questions regarding personally owned platforms and Kubernetes/cloud platforms.
