Staff Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Drive product and business outcomes by enhancing DuckDuckGo’s search engine rankings and results.

• Enhance the quality and accuracy of first-phase rankings without compromising latency.

• Develop lexical-matching and document-authority indicators.

• Broaden search evaluations to assess relevancy readiness and identify ranking blindspots.

• Explore LLMs for feature generation and ranking enhancements.

• Extract actionable insights from sparse, privacy-preserving data.

• Lead complex data science initiatives from initial scoping to production implementation.

• Provide guidance to others on intricate data science tasks.

• Work collaboratively with product teams to enhance overall team productivity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in Data Science.

• At least 2 years at the Staff, Principal, or Director level.

• Proven history of managing high-complexity projects from scoping to production with minimal oversight.

• Capability to advise others on challenging data science tasks.

• Skill in formulating strategies for ambiguous and complex data science issues and translating them into clearly defined projects.

• Practical experience in deploying machine learning models in production environments.

• Background in developing NLP solutions.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development.

• Proficient coding skills in Python or another comparable high-level programming language.

• Advanced SQL skills along with query optimization expertise.

• Effective collaboration with product teams.

• Preferred: experience managing search-specific projects related to ranking, retrieval, or indexing from inception to production.

• Preferred: experience with large-scale search infrastructure such as Vespa, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr.

• Must be willing to attend meetings on camera via video conferencing.

• Must successfully pass a background check as a prerequisite for joining the team.
