• Take charge of the most challenging modeling and architecture within your team’s domain — ontology objects (types, properties, link types, and actions) that accurately represent your segment of the business, as well as the dimensional and semantic models (e.g., Looker/LookML) that support them downstream.
• Serve as a technical advisor to the product and business leaders that your team collaborates with: gain a profound understanding of their objectives and convert vague or conflicting business requirements into clear, sustainable technical strategies.
• Assume complete ownership of your team's most critical business initiatives, where strong semantic and architectural insight sets you apart.
• Ensure your team’s models align with shared definitions of core entities (customer, policy, claim) to maintain consistency and interoperability across the mesh — collaborating with the Principal Engineer and peers on cross-cutting definitions.
• Establish the modeling patterns, naming conventions, and reference implementations for your team, and contribute these to the discipline's collective standards.
• Promote data-as-a-product expectations within your team’s scope — including ownership, contracts, documentation, and reliability for what your team manages.
• Collaborate with domain data engineers to define the data contracts and pipelines that deliver clean, well-defined ontology objects while identifying upstream issues that affect your team’s models.
• Elevate the technical standards through model and design reviews, pairing, mentorship, and involvement in hiring and onboarding processes.
• Set your team’s standards for utilizing Claude and Claude Code in analytics engineering tasks, and design the ontology and semantic layer to be AI-consumable, ensuring that tools like Databricks Genie can reliably interpret your team’s data.
• 8+ years of experience in analytics engineering, BI engineering, or data modeling roles, demonstrating a history as the technical anchor on complex, cross-functional data projects.
• Profound expertise in semantic and data modeling, with the discernment to determine when to use an ontology-driven model, a dimensional model, or both as the appropriate solution.
• Practical experience with an ontology or object-based semantic layer (e.g., Palantir Foundry Ontology), or strong transferable modeling experience and a desire to deepen your knowledge.
• Proficiency in dimensional modeling for presentation/BI consumption (e.g., Looker/LookML) that flows from a source-of-truth model.
• Familiarity with data mesh, data-as-a-product, and domain-oriented architecture, or a strong, well-articulated perspective on effective federated data ownership.
• Experience with modern lakehouse platforms (e.g., Databricks) functioning as a shared, self-service data platform.
• Proven technical leadership and the ability to influence without formal authority — you guide a team and its partners through credibility, clarity, and by setting an example.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly when addressing ambiguity, trade-offs, or disagreements.
• Comfort with applying Claude, Claude Code, and Databricks-native AI tools in everyday analytics engineering tasks.
• Competitive salary and company equity through Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), granted as part of our standard compensation package based on role and level.
• 401(k) plan with company matching up to 4% of eligible earnings.
• A variety of medical plan options, along with dental and vision coverage.
• Company-funded HSA contributions based on medical plan selection.
• Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability coverage.
• A selection of supplemental benefits, including long-term disability, critical illness, accident, legal, and pet insurance.
• Access to mental health support and confidential counseling resources.
• Flexible PTO for exempt employees (most employees take 15–20 days per year), in addition to 8 company-observed holidays.
• Paid parental leave, offering up to 14 weeks at 100% pay for birthing parents and 8 weeks at 100% pay for non-birthing parents.
• Opportunities for career mobility and internal growth within the organization.
• Professional development budgets available for certifications, conferences, and learning, subject to management approval.
