Specialty Materials Chemist – Pyrotechnics, Propulsion

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create challenging single-turn prompts within the specialty materials and propulsion field.

• Classify prompts as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.

• Assess model responses according to a specified policy standard.

• Evaluate whether each response was addressed appropriately.

• Develop reference answers and clarify the technical reasoning behind them.

• Conduct red-team assessments on frontier AI models to evaluate misuse potential.

• Engage in reading and writing about misuse scenarios, with the flexibility to pause or withdraw without penalty.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in formulating, synthesizing, and testing specialty energetic materials in a licensed or government setting.

• Relevant expertise in pyrotechnics, propellants, or specialty energetic materials formulation.

• Background in synthesizing and characterizing energetic compounds within a licensed or government facility.

• Proficiency in performance and sensitivity testing, including calorimetry, thermal stability, and small-scale safety assessments.

• Experience in scale-up and process safety for the production of energetic materials.

• Knowledge in developing solid or liquid rocket propellants, encompassing binders, oxidizers, and burn-rate modifiers.

• Capability to discern routine professional inquiries from potentially harmful misuse scenarios.

• Excellent writing skills; all judgments must include a rationale that is comprehensible to a non-specialist audience.

• Previous experience in technical writing, published research, or serving as an expert witness is highly favored.

• Must refrain from using classified, export-controlled, NDA-covered, or prepublication-review information; all obligations must be disclosed.

• A technical writing sample or link should accompany the application.
