Specialty Materials Chemist – Pyrotechnics, Propulsion

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop complex single-turn prompts within the fields of specialty materials, pyrotechnics, or propulsion.

• Classify prompts as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.

• Assess model responses based on a specified policy standard.

• Evaluate the accuracy of response handling.

• Create reference answers that explain correct responses along with the technical rationale behind them.

• Provide written explanations that are accessible to non-specialists.

• Engage in reading and writing about misuse scenarios for extended periods.

• Have the flexibility to pause or step away from the work at any time without facing penalties.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in formulating, synthesizing, and testing specialty energetic materials in a licensed or governmental facility.

• Capability to differentiate between routine professional inquiries and potentially harmful or misuse-related requests.

• Background in pyrotechnics, propellants, or specialty energetic materials.

• Experience in synthesizing and characterizing energetic compounds in a licensed or governmental setting.

• Familiarity with performance and sensitivity testing, including calorimetry, thermal stability, and small-scale safety evaluations.

• Knowledge of scale-up and process safety for the production of energetic materials.

• Experience in developing solid or liquid rocket propellants, including binders, oxidizers, and burn-rate modifiers.

• Strong technical writing abilities; written explanations should be clear and comprehensible to non-specialists.

• Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is highly desirable.

• Submission of a writing sample or link is required.

• Ability to read and write about misuse scenarios in the field over extended periods.

• Work must not utilize or reference classified, export-controlled, NDA-covered, or prepublication-review information.

• Must disclose any applicable confidentiality obligations to appropriately scope the work.
