Specialty Materials Chemist – Pyrotechnics, Propulsion

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Craft intricate single-turn prompts within the specialty materials and propulsion field.

• Categorize prompts as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.

• Assess model outputs against established policy standards.

• Determine if responses accurately addressed technical inquiries.

• Compose reference answers and elucidate the technical rationale behind them.

• Utilize expert judgment to differentiate between legitimate technical inquiries and hazardous requests.

• Develop prompts that exist at the intersection of standard professional use and misuse.

• Provide written justifications that are accessible to non-specialists.

• Engage in reading and writing about misuse scenarios for extended periods, with the flexibility to pause or step away without repercussions.

• Ensure that classified, export-controlled, NDA-covered, or prepublication-review information is not utilized.

⛳️ Requirements

• Relevant experience in formulating, synthesizing, and testing specialty energetic materials within a licensed or governmental facility.

• Capability to differentiate between routine professional inquiries and potentially harmful misuse situations.

• Experience with pyrotechnics, propellants, or the formulation of specialty energetic materials.

• Background in synthesizing and characterizing energetic compounds in a licensed or governmental setting.

• Familiarity with performance and sensitivity testing, encompassing calorimetry, thermal stability, and small-scale safety evaluations.

• Experience in scale-up and process safety for the production of energetic materials.

• Knowledge in developing solid or liquid rocket propellants, including binders, oxidizers, and burn-rate modifiers.

• Proficient technical writing skills; every decision must include a rationale that non-specialists can comprehend.

• Previous experience in technical writing, published research, or serving as an expert witness is highly regarded.

• Must refrain from using classified, export-controlled, NDA-covered, or prepublication-review information in the work.
