Solution Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Direct the technical strategy for essential product platforms within K12

• Contribute to the overarching architectural vision and strategic framework for K12

• Engage with the Architecture Council by presenting designs, reviewing proposals, and influencing shared standards

• Collaborate with colleagues across platforms to assess and recommend architectural methodologies

• Take ownership of the technical direction for the designated platform

• Work alongside business stakeholders to comprehend functional requirements, limitations, and goals

• Establish an architectural vision that emphasizes security, performance, reliability, DevOps, monitoring, and long-term sustainability

• Identify, prioritize, and manage technical debt

• Assist in estimation, planning, and business-case analysis for significant initiatives

• Collaborate with Product, UX, and engineering teams to organize large initiatives into actionable roadmaps

• Provide architectural insights during development to ensure alignment with strategic objectives

• Document architectural decisions, patterns, and strategic plans

• Ensure engineering teams grasp platform integration within the broader K12 ecosystem

• Promote innovation through prototyping and the exploration of emerging technologies

• Lead through influence; initially, there are no formal supervisory responsibilities

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent experience

• Over 8 years of software engineering experience, including influence over multi-system architecture

• More than 3 years of experience in building solutions on AWS

• Practical experience with various coding languages, UI frameworks, and database technologies

• Knowledge of modern web technologies and open-source frameworks

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to navigate complex trade-offs

• Experience with large-scale, high-availability systems

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead through influence

• Understanding of application, integration, SOA, and distributed architecture patterns

• Capability to create and maintain technical documentation

• Background check clearance

• Willingness to travel up to 5%

• Experience in building SaaS products (preferred)

• Experience in addressing cross-browser challenges (preferred)
