Software Engineer, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Select tasks from a pre-approved collection of Python repositories associated with specific git commits.

• Investigate repositories and their respective pull-request or issue histories to gain insights into subsystems.

• Reformulate engineering questions to effectively challenge advanced coding agents while ensuring they remain clearly defined and answerable.

• Modify rubrics and foils to incentivize accurate reasoning and dismiss plausible but incorrect responses.

• Execute the complete validation cycle in Mercor Studio: Check, Golden, Run, and Analyze.

• Document all work in the task README file.

• Submit tasks for evaluation by experts and address any feedback provided on returned tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Significant practical experience with Python in a production environment.

• Proficiency in navigating large, unfamiliar Python codebases and articulating runtime behavior.

• In-depth knowledge of Python internals, including import mechanisms, descriptors and metaclasses, asynchronous programming and event loops, packaging, and C-extension boundaries.

• Experience with web frameworks, developer tools, type checkers, or scientific/numeric libraries is highly advantageous.

• Strong command of written English.

• Comfortable using git at the commit level, containerized environments, and command-line tools.

• Completion of identity verification and a background check is required.

• Signing of Terms of Work and CIIAA is mandatory.

• Submission of a tax form is necessary.

• Passing a short calibration quiz is required before gaining access to tasks.

• Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a brief technical assessment or provide additional information.
