Software Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and oversee Ruby on Rails services and APIs in conjunction with modern JavaScript/React front-end interfaces.

• Take responsibility for the quality, performance, and reliability of both services and front-end applications.

• Spearhead the comprehensive design and delivery of intricate, well-defined features and systems.

• Produce clear, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code.

• Streamline services, enhance patterns, and minimize technical debt.

• Guide junior engineers through code reviews, constructive feedback, and knowledge exchange.

• Advance the platform to accommodate new services and capabilities across related codebases and domains.

• Collaborate with external vendors and Product and Customer Success teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, and debugging processes.

• Adhere to and advocate for secure, scalable, cloud-native web application development methodologies.

• Contribute to an API-driven platform utilized worldwide for issuing and verifying digital credentials.

• Participate in architectural decision-making processes and elevate the technical standards for the engineering team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional software development experience.

• Expertise in Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, and PostgreSQL.

• Proven history of making significant technical decisions in complex production settings.

• Experience in delivering well-tested code and providing constructive code reviews.

• Exceptional cross-functional communication skills with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

• Background in software architecture, system design, and scalability.

• Strong practical engineering experience.

• Experience in mentoring or supporting junior engineers.

• Familiarity with distributed or service-oriented architectures.

• Experience with asynchronous, event-driven communication between services.

• Ability to work across multiple codebases and quickly adapt to unfamiliar systems.

• Proficient in using AI tools for coding, testing, documentation, and learning, with sound judgment in validating AI-generated outputs.

• Nice to have: experience with production workloads on AWS and Azure.

• Nice to have: knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.

• Nice to have: integration of third-party or vendor-delivered services.

• Nice to have: familiarity with web application security best practices.

• Nice to have: experience with design systems, component libraries, or advanced front-end tools.

• Nice to have: experience with scalability, resilience, or performance optimization at scale.

• Nice to have: experience with Apache Pulsar or Apache Kafka.
