Software Engineer II, Backend – Identity Decisioning

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Decompose larger projects into manageable tasks and deliver them in various phases.

• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure projects are completed on schedule.

• Work alongside product management, design, and analytics during the brainstorming and decision-making processes.

• Clearly communicate technical limitations and assess potential risks and trade-offs.

• Develop and track metrics for team deliverables.

• Address issues and maintain operational availability, including on-call responsibilities.

• Engage in growth and development activities, which include participating in interviews.

• Construct backend systems that verify consumer identities across Affirm's products and adhere to regulatory standards such as KYC.

• Work with Product, Compliance, Authentication, Fraud, and engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 1.5 years of experience as a software engineer.

• Proven experience in designing, developing, and launching backend systems.

• Proficiency in either Python or Kotlin.

• Familiarity with distributed systems.

• Knowledge of AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.

• Capability to design solutions that interact with multiple software components.

• Skill in writing clear, well-tested, and maintainable code.

• Experience in navigating extensive code bases and troubleshooting code.

• Background in providing code review feedback.

• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
