Software Engineer, C – Codebase Q&A

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Choose assignments from a curated selection of C repositories linked to specific git commits.

• Investigate repositories along with pertinent pull-request or issue histories to gain insights into subsystems.

• Reformulate engineering questions to effectively challenge cutting-edge coding agents while ensuring clarity.

• Modify rubrics and distractors to incentivize correct reasoning and dismiss plausible yet incorrect answers.

• Execute the validation loop in Mercor Studio: Check, Golden, Run, and Analyze.

• Continue iterating until all validation phases are completed successfully.

• Document findings in task READMEs.

• Submit tasks for expert evaluation and incorporate feedback from reviewers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Significant experience with production C programming.

• Proficient in navigating extensive, unfamiliar C codebases and articulating runtime behaviors.

• Familiarity with preprocessor-heavy builds, platform conditionals, manual memory management, and autotools/CMake/Meson build systems.

• Background in databases, cryptography, networking protocols, or systems programming is highly relevant.

• Competent in using debuggers, sanitizers, tracing tools, and profilers.

• Excellent written communication skills in English.

• Completion of identity verification and a background check is required.

• Signing of Terms of Work and CIIAA is mandatory.

• Submission of a tax form is necessary.

• A short calibration quiz must be passed prior to task access.

• Eligible candidates may be required to complete a brief technical assessment or provide additional information.
