Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Tackle intriguing and large-scale backend technical challenges.

• Assist in determining ways for the team to enhance its practices.

• Spot opportunities for innovation and optimization.

• Grasp customer requirements and provide innovative, robust solutions in collaboration with the Product Owner and stakeholders.

• Offer operational support to customers when escalated by the Client Services team.

• Design backend infrastructure for dependable, scalable, high-performance hosting services that operate 24x7x365.

• Deliver high-quality software frequently and iteratively by applying Agile principles and utilizing current technology.

• Collaborate within an autonomous, self-organizing team responsible for a segment of the xneelo ecosystem.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in designing and developing backend software and APIs.

• Proficiency in object-oriented programming with a language such as Ruby.

• Background in software development within the Linux/Unix environment.

• Familiarity with software development using containerization platforms like Docker or Kubernetes.

• Knowledge of Agile development practices, including automated testing, refactoring, continuous integration, and pair programming.

• Strong communication skills.

• Self-motivated and able to manage oneself effectively.

• Commitment to lifelong learning.

• A BSc in Computer Science is advantageous, though a proven track record of delivering quality backend software is essential.

• A minimum of 4+ years of experience in software development.

• At least 2 years of experience supporting a large-scale application in an operational role.

• Familiarity with software security details is a plus.

• Experience with Rancher, Docker Swarm, or other container orchestration platforms is beneficial.

• Understanding of database design and performance tuning, including MySQL and Redis.

• Experience with DevOps practices on a Linux-based platform.

• Experience in system administration on a Linux-based platform.
