Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.

📋 Description

• Develop client-side interfaces utilizing JavaScript/React and TypeScript, alongside server-side functionalities using Ruby/Rails, Elixir/Phoenix, or NodeJS.

• Lead the design, deployment, and upkeep of features across the Opal Platform.

• Effectively leverage AI-assisted development tools in daily tasks.

• Assess AI-generated code for accuracy, test coverage, and maintainability.

• Engage in the complete product creative process, including design discussions, technical architecture choices, and implementation.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Design teams.

• Create APIs, web applications, and microservices that power the Opal Platform.

• Develop and deploy JSON:API-compliant API endpoints with appropriate test coverage and shared OpenAPI contracts.

• Utilize Docker, Redis, Postgres, and ElasticSearch to construct scalable and maintainable applications.

• Assist in project scoping and future planning at the intersection of Product and Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of relevant Full Stack software engineering experience, particularly in frontend development.

• A strong passion for building exceptional products, recognizing their potential and impact, and crafting outstanding user experiences.

• Experience in developing enterprise-grade, cloud-based web applications and utilizing relational database technologies such as Postgres.

• Proficient understanding of AI-assisted development tools, including coding agents and related workflows.

• A practical understanding of where AI-assisted development tools are beneficial and where they require close supervision.

• Extensive knowledge of web application architecture patterns and potential pitfalls, with well-informed opinions on trade-offs.

• Familiarity with frontend JavaScript libraries and frameworks like ReactJS.

• Ability to effectively build consensus, make decisions, and deliver value through software deployment.

• Comfortable with both in-person and digital communication, able to articulate and simplify information for Designers, Engineers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders.
