Software Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Write and review code on a weekly basis.

• Make informed architectural choices.

• Assist in leading a small team comprised of both local and international developers.

• Report directly to the VP of Research & Development and collaborate with product, QA, TechOps, and other teams within the Harris ERP portfolio.

• Develop and implement strategies to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Customer Support department, in line with company goals and customer requirements.

• Work alongside the VP of Operations to establish operational objectives, develop KPIs, and create plans to meet targets.

• Design, construct, and deploy production code using contemporary Java frameworks and enterprise-level engineering practices.

• Manage substantial modernization projects from start to finish, including technical design, code review, testing, and deployment.

• Make practical architectural decisions that balance modernization objectives, delivery schedules, and real-world product conditions.

• Provide daily guidance, coaching, and technical mentorship to developers both locally and internationally.

• Set priorities, facilitate work, and uphold a consistent quality standard across different time zones.

• Collaborate with the VP of R&D on staffing requirements, performance evaluations, and discussions regarding career advancement.

• Establish asynchronous updates, documentation practices, and review schedules for effective distributed collaboration.

• Utilize and assist the team in using AI coding assistants and agentic tools for scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, and code review.

• Identify opportunities for MCP-based tools and AI agents to replace fragile integrations or manual operational tasks.

• Provide timely operational reports to support the validation of both current and newly implemented processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in designing and delivering production-grade backend services in Java or a similar modern, statically-typed language.

• Experience in owning REST API design and integration within an actual production environment.

• Experience in providing technical guidance or mentorship to other developers, whether formally or informally, including code reviews and fostering their development.

• Comfort in working directly with distributed or outsourced development teams across time zones, with strong asynchronous written communication skills.

• Active, hands-on experience with AI coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) as part of your regular development workflow.

• Strong foundation in relational database design and SQL.

• Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Demonstrated experience as a senior-level developer, with some exposure to guiding or mentoring other engineers.

• Ability to work core hours that overlap with both a US-based team and overseas developers.

• Preferred: Experience in developing software within an AI-Driven Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC) or contributing to a team that has adopted such a lifecycle.

• Preferred: Direct experience with Quarkus, Jakarta EE, Hibernate, MapStruct, and/or Lombok.

• Preferred: Experience in modernizing or migrating a legacy Java monolith (Java EE, GlassFish, or similar) to a modern framework.

• Preferred: Experience collaborating with a React front-end team or contributing to a React codebase.

• Preferred: Background in ERP, GovTech, or other regulated/public-sector software.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or building AI-integrated tools and agents.

• Preferred: Specific experience with SQL Server.

• Preferred: Experience with Data-tier Application Package (DACPAC).

• Preferred: Familiarity with container engines such as Podman, Docker, or similar technologies.
