SMB Account Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Manage a multi-million-dollar portfolio of small to medium-sized business (SMB) merchants across various sectors.

• Develop and implement retention strategies to identify and mitigate churn risks.

• Oversee the pipeline and successfully close upsell, cross-sell, and contract adoption opportunities.

• Establish trusted relationships with business owners.

• Address competitive challenges, commercial resistance, and escalations effectively.

• Create post-mortem analyses, communication scripts, and team guidelines.

• Utilize portfolio data to provide recommendations for Square's SMB strategy.

• Collaborate with Sales, Support, Product, and Analytics teams to resolve issues and prevent future occurrences.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years in account management, sales, or a similar client-facing position.

• Proven history of achieving retention and revenue targets in a performance-driven environment.

• Experience managing a fast-paced, high-volume portfolio while simultaneously pursuing retention and growth opportunities.

• Excellent negotiation abilities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills that are clear and persuasive.

• Robust financial and analytical competencies.

• Ability to work collaboratively with Sales, Product, Support, and Analytics teams.

• Genuine interest in small businesses and the challenges faced by SMB owners.

• Proficiency in native Japanese and business-level English.

• Formal training in sales methodologies (preferred).

• Familiarity with fintech, payments, or SaaS platforms (preferred).

• Experience in contributing to team playbooks, communication scripts, or process enhancements (preferred).
