
Senior/Staff Software Engineer β Platform and Execution Model

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
β’ Design, develop, and take ownership of essential components within the core execution model, which includes the state machine, lifecycle, resource model, and failure semantics.
β’ Create dependable distributed systems that exhibit predictable behavior during retries, restarts, partial failures, and concurrent executions.
β’ Develop platform APIs/SDKs that connect workflows, agents, tools, and product surfaces while managing versioning and compatibility.
β’ Ensure correctness through idempotency, deterministic replays, compensating actions, and maintaining data integrity.
β’ Engineer reliability at scale using concurrency controls, rate limits, backpressure, sharding/partitioning, and workload isolation.
β’ Integrate security and governance into the core framework via RBAC/ABAC, policy enforcement, and detailed audit and lineage tracking.
β’ Provide observability through distributed tracing, structured logging, metrics, evaluation hooks, and a clear trail of agent actions.
β’ Maintain high quality through design reviews, test strategies, performance baselines, SLOs, incident response, and postmortems.
β’ Mentor fellow engineers, participate in design reviews, and establish robust engineering patterns across the platform.
β’ Contribute to Trase OS, the unified platform that supports AI deployments in regulated environments.
β’ Over 8 years of experience in building distributed/platform systems, with substantial experience in defining architecture across various teams or domains.
β’ At least 4 years of experience managing mission-critical runtimes or workflow/orchestration systems.
β’ Extensive knowledge of durable execution, encompassing state machines, event sourcing, saga/compensation, idempotency, and exactly/at-least-once semantics.
β’ Demonstrated experience with security and governance in production systems, including authentication, RBAC, auditing, and policy management.
β’ Proficient in observability tools, such as Grafana or similar, and trace correlation across asynchronous boundaries.
β’ Strong background in systems design related to storage, queues, schedulers, and event-driven architectures; capable of performance tuning under load.
β’ Proficient in a modern programming language such as Go, Rust, Java, or TypeScript, along with cloud-native stacks, including containers, CI/CD, and IaC.
β’ Comfortable working in regulated or high-assurance environments, with a focus on correctness, clarity, and thorough documentation.
β’ Strong technical judgment and capability to influence design decisions within a team and across closely related engineering domains.
β’ Ability to integrate advanced LLM capabilities into system design and platform architecture decisions when appropriate.
