Backend Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the API and job queues that manage every sticker request.

• Maintain the real-time connection layer that devices depend on, collaborating with the firmware engineer.

• Optimize and expand autoscaling capabilities for seasonal spikes and fleet expansion, working alongside the ML Serving engineer on GPU inference.

• Enhance observability through metrics, logs, tracing, and alerts.

• Develop cost instrumentation for requests, models, and services.

• Manage release engineering for server-side services, which includes safe deployments, database migrations, and swift rollbacks.

• Collaborate with the Trust & Safety engineer to focus on abuse prevention, device security, and privacy.

• Participate in on-call duties and work towards improving the rotation over time.

• Strengthen, scale, and establish standards for Hapiko's backend infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Python and PostgreSQL.

• Experience with Elixir or a genuine interest in learning the language.

• Proven experience managing production infrastructure from start to finish.

• Experience in scaling a queue-driven or real-time system amidst significant traffic growth.

• Comfortable with being paged for systems that you manage.

• Ability to work on systems that are fast, safe for children, and cost-effective as the product scales.
