Backend Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the API and job queues utilized for every sticker request.

• Oversee and enhance the real-time connection layer for devices.

• Optimize and expand autoscaling capabilities for holiday peaks and fleet expansion.

• Collaborate with the ML Serving engineer on GPU inference tasks.

• Advance observability through metrics, logs, tracing, and alerts.

• Develop cost instrumentation for requests, models, and services.

• Lead release engineering for server-side services, ensuring safe deployments, database migrations, and rollbacks.

• Collaborate with the Trust & Safety team on abuse prevention, device security, and privacy measures.

• Share on-call duties and work towards decreasing incidents over time.

• Strengthen, scale, and set standards for backend infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in Python and PostgreSQL.

• Experience with Elixir, or a strong interest in learning it.

• Experience managing production infrastructure from end to end.

• Proven experience in scaling a queue-driven or real-time system to handle significant traffic growth.

• Comfortable being on-call for the systems you manage.

• Capable of working on backend systems that are fast, kid-safe, and cost-effective at scale.
