This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
β’ Develop and take ownership of essential components of Trase OS, the unified platform that facilitates Trase implementations in regulated settings.
β’ Create and implement well-structured, robust abstractions for the platform's execution framework.
β’ Ensure accuracy and reliability in workflow execution.
β’ Convert changing product requirements into a cohesive platform architecture.
β’ Construct dependable distributed systems capable of handling retries, restarts, partial failures, and concurrent executions.
β’ Design platform APIs and SDKs that connect workflows, agents, tools, and product interfaces; oversee versioning and compatibility.
β’ Ensure correctness through idempotency, deterministic replays, compensating actions, and data integrity.
β’ Engineer reliability at scale by implementing concurrency controls, rate limits, backpressure, sharding/partitioning, and workload isolation.
β’ Integrate security and governance as foundational elements through RBAC/ABAC, policy enforcement, detailed auditing, and lineage tracking.
β’ Provide observability via distributed tracing, structured logs, metrics, evaluation hooks, and a clear trail of agent activities.
β’ Maintain quality through design reviews, testing strategies, performance baselines, SLOs, incident responses, and postmortems.
β’ Mentor engineers and cultivate strong engineering practices throughout the platform.
β’ For candidates at the staff level, lead architecture initiatives across teams, set engineering standards, and mentor fellow engineers.
β’ Occasional travel to client sites may be necessary.
β’ 8+ years of experience in building distributed/platform systems, with significant experience in defining architecture across teams or domains.
β’ 4+ years of experience managing mission-critical runtimes or workflow/orchestration systems.
β’ Extensive expertise in durable execution, including state machines, event sourcing, saga/compensation, idempotency, and exactly/at-least-once semantics.
β’ Demonstrated success with security and governance in production environments, covering authentication, RBAC, auditing, and policy enforcement.
β’ Practical experience with observability tools, such as Grafana or similar, and trace correlation across asynchronous boundaries.
β’ Strong systems design skills in areas such as storage, queues, schedulers, and event-driven architectures; performance optimization under load.
β’ Proficiency in a modern programming language like Go, Rust, Java, or TypeScript, and familiarity with cloud-native technologies including containers, CI/CD, and IaC.
β’ Comfortable working in regulated or high-assurance environments; emphasis on correctness, clarity, and thorough documentation.
β’ Strong technical judgment and the capacity to influence design choices within a team and across closely related engineering disciplines.
β’ Capability to integrate advanced LLM functionalities into system design and platform architecture decisions when applicable.
