This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more locations.
• Create gameplay, systems, mechanics, maps, and levels for narrative-focused RPG video games
• Oversee the design of gameplay systems and mechanics, including unit balancing and in-game economy
• Design and execute game levels and missions, encompassing mission objectives and level layouts
• Assist in the integration of art and narrative assets within Unity
• Lead design meetings and document game designs and requirements
• Collaborate with development, engineering, writing, art, testing, and management teams
• Convey necessary mechanics to the Engineering team
• Ensure exceptional UX quality and advocate for intuitive onboarding experiences
• Engage in internal game testing and provide feedback
• Update on progress and challenges, define deliverables, and assist in establishing project timelines and expectations
• Identify and address user experience challenges
• Recognize opportunities for analytics instrumentation and analyze data to enhance UX
• Work during core hours from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM Pacific and participate in relevant team meetings
• Collaborate with international partners during occasional late evenings, nights, or early mornings
• Some travel may be required
• Over 10 years of professional video game design experience
• Must have successfully launched at least one video game in a Senior Designer capacity
• Experience throughout the entire game development cycle: concept, design, prototype, production, content creation, testing, polish, launch, and support
• Deep understanding of combat and travel systems, mechanics, and level design best practices
• Expert-level proficiency in Unity
• Experience integrating and implementing narrative elements within gameplay
• Familiarity with professional narrative authoring tools such as Articy, Arcweave, or Pixel Crushers
• Knowledge of developing games for PC and consoles
• Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication and presentation skills in English
• Experience applying UML in design
• Proficient in Atlassian Jira and Confluence
• Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio
• Ability to work remotely using collaboration tools
• Ergonomic and secure workspace that is separate from personal activities and roommates during work hours
• Must reside within the UTC-4 to UTC-8 time zones
• Must be authorized to work in the USA or Canada
• H-1B transfers and sponsorships are not available
• Bonus: proficiency in Adobe, Blender, 3ds Max, Adobe XD, or Figma
