Senior Systems Engineer, Network

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee, support, and maintain the network infrastructure across corporate and data center settings.

• Manage and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, and wireless systems.

• Establish, maintain, and enhance Palo Alto firewall policies, NAT configurations, VPNs, security zones, and threat prevention services.

• Act as the primary escalation point for intricate network and connectivity challenges.

• Monitor network performance, capacity, availability, and security utilizing enterprise monitoring tools.

• Collaborate with service providers and carriers to provision, troubleshoot, and resolve circuit and connectivity issues.

• Engage in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident evaluations for network-related occurrences.

• Participate in an on-call rotation to offer support for critical production infrastructure.

• Work together with the Network Manager to develop and uphold network architecture standards and roadmaps.

• Design and implement highly available network solutions that support hyperscale and enterprise data center operations.

• Establish standards for routing, switching, wireless networking, firewall management, VPNs, and network segmentation.

• Assess emerging technologies and propose enhancements to boost security, performance, reliability, and scalability.

• Create and maintain network diagrams, engineering standards, device templates, and operational procedures.

• Support network integration efforts related to new sites, infrastructure expansion initiatives, and portfolio growth.

• Serve as the technical lead for network infrastructure projects from the planning phase through implementation.

• Develop project plans, implementation timelines, testing procedures, and cutover strategies in collaboration with implementation partners.

• Coordinate tasks among internal teams, external vendors, carriers, and managed service providers.

• Track project milestones, risks, issues, and dependencies while ensuring successful project delivery.

• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and procurement activities for network hardware, software, and support contracts.

• Maintain comprehensive network documentation, standards, runbooks, and recovery procedures.

• Create executive-level summaries and technical recommendations for infrastructure improvements.

• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction to cross-functional teams.

• Collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, compliance, facilities, and operations teams on strategic initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• A minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in network engineering.

• At least 3 years of experience leading complex infrastructure or network projects.

• Must possess experience working within a data center operations environment.

• Experience supporting geographically diverse enterprise and/or data center settings.

• Strong comprehension of high-availability network design and operational best practices.

• Architectural mindset with experience in developing comprehensive multi-disciplinary solutions (Networking, Security, Systems, Infrastructure).

• Automation experience is a plus: expertise in driving a disciplined and consistent environment using automation tools.

• Relevant certifications are a plus: PCNSE, PCNSA, CCNP (Enterprise, Service Provider, Data Center, Security).
