Manager, Network Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead a team of network engineers tasked with delivering and supporting new and enhanced platform services.

• Oversee modifications to optical and packet infrastructure as well as changes in colocation facilities.

• Contribute to the development of technology roadmaps and implementation strategies.

• Drive ongoing improvements in operational systems and processes.

• Assist the Internet2 community in effectively adopting and implementing services.

• Collaborate with stakeholders at national, regional, and campus levels.

• Tackle complex customer and network challenges.

• Act as an escalation point for the Network Operations Center, service desk, and break-fix teams.

• Mentor technical teams and foster performance management.

• Support career development, recruitment, and onboarding processes.

• Lead the deployment and operationalization of intricate network services and infrastructure.

• Work with technical teams on routing, transport, and automation initiatives.

• Oversee project and operational delivery, ensuring quality assurance, issue resolution, and continuous improvement.

• Coordinate logistics related to network infrastructure, procurement, inventory management, and facility readiness.

• Manage critical-incident escalations to ensure operational continuity.

• Resolve issues that impact customers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Sciences, IT, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.

• Over 3 years of management experience guiding a team through complex computer systems, software, and network deployment.

• More than 3 years of experience in a metrics-driven 24x7x365 operations environment.

• Strong skills in project management and problem-solving.

• Fundamental knowledge of IP networking and direct experience in implementing applications using IP protocols.

• Familiarity with Internet ecosystems, including open exchanges, cloud/peering, colocation, or transport infrastructure.

• Knowledge or experience with physical connectivity across all layers, including DC cabling, power distribution, cross-connects, and DWDM transmission systems.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for both engineering and executive audiences.

• Capable of working in a remote setting and supporting a team spread across various time zones.

• Willingness to travel up to 30% of the year.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Preferred: Over 3 years of experience in multi-site campus, ISP, WAN, and/or carrier networks.

• Preferred: Experience with global backbone architectures.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Unix and/or Python.

• Preferred: Knowledge of network automation tools such as NSO.

• Preferred: Experience with Internet routing protocols including ISIS, OSPF, and SR-MPLS.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Cisco NCS/ASR/8200 Platforms (ISO-XR) and Juniper EX/MX platforms.

• Preferred: Understanding of route policy, traffic analysis, and troubleshooting, particularly in BGP and Layer 1 networking environments.
