Senior Systems Engineer

📋 Description

• Provide technical guidance for the architecture, strategy, and advancement of Wabtec’s Train Handling solutions.

• Oversee the development of intricate system architectures, requirements, and design solutions.

• Act as the technical authority for significant programs throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development to deployment and maintenance.

• Collaborate with teams in Product Management, Software Engineering, Train Control, Office Systems, Safety, Validation, and Applications Engineering.

• Conduct technical reviews, design assessments, trade studies, and system-level verification and validation.

• Facilitate the resolution of complex system and product challenges through data-driven analysis and root cause investigations.

• Work together with railroad executives, customers, industry stakeholders, and subject matter experts.

• Guide field testing, operational demonstrations, and customer deployments.

• Identify and advocate for emerging technologies, advanced automation concepts, and next-generation train handling capabilities.

• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and technical procedures.

• Mentor and nurture the development of systems engineers.

• Promote the use of AI-enabled tools, advanced analytics, and intelligent automation throughout the product development lifecycle.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.

• At least 10 years of hands-on experience in design, requirements development, and implementation related to Engineering Systems, Hardware/Software Engineering, and/or Data Information Systems.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Capability to work in a cross-functional, global environment.

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

• Extensive experience in applying systems engineering principles throughout the entire product lifecycle.

• Experience in leading the technical development of complex, multi-disciplinary systems that involve software, controls, automation, embedded systems, communications, or safety-critical applications.

• Knowledge of systems architecture, requirements decomposition, interface management, risk management, and system integration methodologies.

• Proven experience in influencing product strategy, technology roadmaps, and engineering direction.

• Background in mentoring engineers and promoting technical excellence.

• Ability to assess and implement AI-enabled technologies, advanced analytics, optimization techniques, and data-driven decision-making.

• Expertise in railroad operations, train control systems, distributed systems, automation technologies, or safety-critical transportation industries is highly desirable.

• Familiarity with AAR, CENELEC, FRA, and other relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety practices.

• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

• Successful completion of a drug screening (as applicable) and fitness for duty test (as applicable).
