Senior Systems Engineer

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership for the architecture, strategy, and advancement of Wabtec’s Train Handling solutions.

• Oversee the development of intricate system architectures, requirements, and design solutions.

• Act as the technical authority for significant programs throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development to deployment and sustainment.

• Collaborate with teams in Product Management, Software Engineering, Train Control, Office Systems, Safety, Validation, and Applications Engineering.

• Lead technical reviews, design evaluations, trade studies, and system-level verification and validation processes.

• Drive the resolution of complex system and product challenges through data-driven analysis and root cause investigations.

• Partner with railroad executives, customers, industry stakeholders, and subject matter experts.

• Guide field testing, operational demonstrations, and customer deployments.

• Identify and advocate for emerging technologies, advanced automation concepts, and next-generation train handling capabilities.

• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and technical processes.

• Mentor and cultivate systems engineers.

• Promote the adoption of AI-enabled tools, advanced analytics, and intelligent automation throughout the product development lifecycle.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university.

• At least 10 years of hands-on experience in design, requirements development, and implementation involving Engineering Systems, Hardware/Software Engineering, and/or Data Information Systems.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, global environment.

• Willingness and capability to travel domestically and internationally.

• Extensive experience in applying systems engineering principles throughout the complete product lifecycle.

• Proven experience in leading technical development of intricate, multi-disciplinary systems that involve software, controls, automation, embedded systems, communications, or safety-critical applications.

• Profound knowledge of systems architecture, requirements decomposition, interface management, risk management, and system integration methodologies.

• Ability to influence product strategy, technology roadmaps, and engineering direction across various teams and programs.

• Experience mentoring engineers and fostering technical excellence.

• Capability to evaluate and implement AI-enabled technologies, advanced analytics, optimization techniques, and data-driven decision-making.

• Expertise in railroad operations, train control systems, distributed systems, automation technologies, or other transportation and safety-critical industries is highly preferred.

• Working knowledge of AAR, CENELEC, FRA, and other relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety practices.
