Senior Supervisory Attorney – Complex Claim Unit

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Deliver proficient legal representation by engaging and overseeing external counsel managing intricate litigation concerning the corporation and/or its insured parties.

• Conduct initial coverage assessments.

• Compose Reservation of Rights letters for specific cases.

• Offer legal counsel to business partners as required.

• Report directly to the Senior Manager, Legal.

• Oversee a caseload to achieve favorable results.

• Actively manage external counsel and ensure adherence to company standards.

• Develop and implement litigation strategies to facilitate successful case resolutions.

• Evaluate and formulate defense strategies throughout the duration of the case.

• Follow litigation best practices, including strategy formulation, motion procedures, and trial preparation.

• Escalate and provide reports on cases as necessary.

• Engage in meetings and discussions with management and attorney team members regarding case management, strategic planning, reserving practices, risk management, process compliance, and overall performance.

• Present cases to senior leadership.

• Actively oversee the case lifecycle, including prompt case closures.

• Implement reserving practices, identify reserve shortfalls, make timely updates, and seek necessary approvals when appropriate.

• Identify coverage issues, draft Reservation of Rights letters, integrate coverage analysis into case assessments, and collaborate with Coverage partners as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in delivering customer-focused solutions, support, or services.

• Proven experience in drafting civil pleadings, motions, conducting discovery, and deposing witnesses.

• Demonstrated litigation experience.

• Strong understanding of the rules of Professional Responsibility relevant to the jurisdiction in which they practice.

• Comprehensive knowledge of tort, contract, and insurance law.

• Admission to the state bar in the state of residence, or required bar admission within the designated timeline post-hire.

• Juris Doctor degree.

• Must pass an adjuster license examination within six months of employment.

• Previous experience managing external counsel is advantageous.

• Experience with first- and third-party bad faith litigation in western U.S. states is a plus.

• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
