Senior Structural Engineer – Energy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and supervise the construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects.

• Conduct overall design and analysis for safety-related and non-safety-related structures within nuclear and commercial projects.

• Collaborate with mechanical, nuclear, operations, and electrical engineering teams on structural designs and layouts.

• Utilize regulatory guidance, codes, standards, industry best practices, and engineering judgment to ensure designs meet compliance requirements.

• Execute advanced engineering calculations through traditional methods or Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

• Perform foundation analyses, structural frame analyses, and unique FEA model analyses.

• Create and review civil layout plans, foundation details, steelwork details, and architectural feature designs.

• Design containment structures, reactor buildings, and support systems utilizing reinforced concrete, steel, and composite/advanced materials.

• Prepare and authorize design documents and modifications for the plant.

• Coordinate with designers on document development following approved procedures and design requirements.

• Develop, manage, and implement engineering analyses, activities, and programs to identify and address equipment and system issues.

• Apply design criteria, specifications, practices, procedures, codes, and site design and safety/licensing bases in design media.

• Participate in multidisciplinary project teams, integrating designs across various disciplines.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.

• Review design media for accuracy and compliance with company policies and client expectations.

• Manage assigned schedules and initiate corrective actions to mitigate delays.

• Suggest equipment, concepts, and techniques to enhance performance, simplify designs, reduce costs, rectify flaws, or meet evolving requirements.

• Assist in the installation and testing of site systems and components.

• Operate independently with minimal supervision.

• Undertake other assigned responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical or engineering discipline is required.

• At least 7 years of relevant experience, including recent structural engineering experience in nuclear design projects.

• Preferred experience in the nuclear industry.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.

• A Master's degree is preferred.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

• Extensive knowledge and experience in civil design are required.

• Deep understanding of strength of materials and structural mechanics.

• Capability to perform complex technical tasks with limited oversight.

• Advanced knowledge and application of fundamental principles and concepts related to civil and structural design.

• Familiarity with ASME, ACI, ASCE, and AISC industry standards and design codes is necessary.

• Experience in conducting seismic and impact-based dynamic analyses, as well as geotechnical and geophysical engineering.

• Background in modular design development of SSCs is beneficial.

• Experience collaborating with designers and manufacturers to create models and drawings.

• Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Tekla, and Revit.

• Previous nuclear industry experience, including interactions with NRC or other regulatory bodies, is required.
