This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Act as the lead architect for the future of Carbon’s hardware.
• Establish the technical roadmap and foundational architectures for advanced additive manufacturing solutions.
• Take ownership of the high-level mechanical architecture for new 3D printing platforms, ensuring modularity, serviceability, and top-tier precision.
• Serve as the technical link between Systems, Electrical, Software, and Materials Science to mitigate risks in 0-to-1 products.
• Create company-wide frameworks for validation, reliability testing, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Collaborate with Leadership and Product Management to convert product requirements into a long-term technical execution strategy.
• Identify and address architectural gaps to enhance long-term product performance.
• Make influential decisions in critical Design Reviews and Root Cause Analysis during significant hardware events or failures.
• Raise the engineering standards across the organization and mentor both staff-level and junior engineers.
• Over 12 years of experience in mechanical or mechatronics product development.
• Demonstrated success in delivering complex systems from concept to mass production.
• Proven history of mentoring and advancing Senior and Staff-level engineers within a hardware organization.
• High-level expertise in thermodynamics, structural dynamics, and precision motion control in high-tolerance environments.
• Extensive experience in managing Tier 1 JDM/CM partners and overseeing global pilot and production builds.
• Ability to simplify complex technical trade-offs into clear, data-driven recommendations for leadership.
• Advanced application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), DFMEA, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) for high-volume hardware.
• A mentorship-oriented approach towards junior engineers across the organization.
• Expertise in engineering analysis, including detailed tolerance, safety, thermal, stress, fatigue, lifetime, manufacturability, failure modes, and cost considerations.
• Experience in selecting materials for sheet metal, metal, plastic, and elastomers.
