This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.
• Manage and resolve complex employee exits independently across various international jurisdictions.
• Provide expert advice to clients regarding termination, resignation, transfer procedures, employment contracts, and redundancy processes, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
• Lead meetings with clients and external employees, including consultations on workforce reductions, administrative hearings, settlement negotiations, and termination outcome discussions.
• Negotiate favorable outcomes in intricate terminations while managing stakeholders with differing interests.
• Collaborate with payroll, legal counsel, government entities, trade unions, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and audits during the offboarding process.
• Draft, customize, and manage termination and supplementary documents while ensuring the confidentiality and accuracy of employee records.
• Execute offboarding procedures in Remote’s internal HRIS platform, working closely with Customer Success, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and Time and Attendance teams.
• Act as an informal escalation point by mentoring and supporting junior team members.
• Provide initial Employee Relations guidance and assist clients in navigating complex workplace issues.
• Conduct preliminary evaluations of workplace concerns, identifying relevant facts, regulations, and potential solutions.
• Serve as a reliable resource for internal and external stakeholders regarding employee relations matters.
• Advise clients on progressive discipline, documentation standards, and best practices.
• Track and monitor employee relations cases, ensuring timely follow-up.
• Address internal and external inquiries related to offboarding and initial employee relations issues.
• Identify and implement process enhancements, automation initiatives, product development, and improvements to customer and employee experiences.
• Establish methods, procedures, and standards for new assignments, adapting complex techniques to align with Lifecycle and Remote objectives.
• Report directly to the Manager of Employee Lifecycle, Employee Relations & Transitions.
• Experience as an HR Advisor or HR Business Partner, with a broad understanding of generalist HR competencies and exposure throughout the employee lifecycle.
• Tertiary qualifications in HR, labor relations, or employment law are advantageous.
• Demonstrated experience in managing both voluntary and involuntary exits (terminations) with care, sensitivity, and adherence to legal standards.
• Proven ability to provide comprehensive HR advice and support regarding employment laws and regulations across diverse jurisdictions.
• Knowledge of employee relations principles, progressive discipline methods, and fundamentals of workplace investigations.
• Capability to interpret and apply industrial instruments while analyzing complex HR issues.
• Ability to independently research problems, translate findings into valuable team resources, propose practical solutions, and communicate recommendations effectively to clients and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, influencing, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
• Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English at a business level.
• A proactive approach to innovation, process optimization, automation implementation, and championing best practices.
• Strong operational efficiency, meticulous record-keeping, and commitment to data integrity.
• Technologically proficient and able to collaborate asynchronously using various tools while adapting to changing systems.
• Ability to work independently and cohesively in a fast-paced, remote international environment while managing competing priorities.
• Willingness to work flexible hours as required.
• Self-motivated with a proactive mindset, demonstrating ownership and accountability.
