Senior Software Engineer, Ruby on Rails

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement efficient, scalable, and dependable backend systems primarily using Rails and Go.

• Identify and extract well-defined capabilities from existing Rails systems, creating clear interfaces and incremental migration strategies.

• Create reliable data flows between backend services and data warehouses such as BigQuery and Snowflake.

• Lead intricate initiatives from the discovery phase and technical design through to implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.

• Decompose work into manageable tasks, establish sequencing and ownership, and monitor risks and dependencies.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, Data, Platform, and engineering teams across various domains.

• Diagnose and address performance bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and enhance backend resilience.

• Recommend and advocate for architectural decisions while effectively communicating technical insights.

• Provide mentorship to engineers through code reviews, collaborative coding, design discussions, and technical guidance.

• Enhance code quality, testing procedures, observability, deployment processes, and operational ownership.

• Engage in the on-call rotation, conduct root cause analyses, and implement long-term reliability enhancements.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–8 years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience in developing production Ruby on Rails applications.

• Demonstrated success in owning and delivering complex, multi-component features within a team setting.

• Experience in designing and managing backend systems that handle considerable scale and complexity.

• Proven ability to coordinate technical efforts across team boundaries while proactively managing dependencies, risks, and evolving requirements.

• Expert-level proficiency in Ruby on Rails.

• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning at scale.

• Comprehensive understanding of API design, encompassing RESTful services, serialization strategies, and versioning.

• Experience with background job processing frameworks like Sidekiq and asynchronous workflows.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.

• Knowledge of observability practices including logging, metrics, and tracing.

• Working knowledge of Go.

• Capacity to operate independently in a distributed engineering environment.
