Senior Software Engineer – Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design, architect, and implement microservices using Java and Spring Boot across the entire platform.

• Specify and document the target-state architecture, service boundaries, and upgrade paths.

• Lead the transformation of legacy PHP/Symfony monolith functionalities into independently deployable Java services.

• Create and develop AWS-native solutions utilizing ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and Parameter Store.

• Construct and maintain secure REST APIs with features like validation, error handling, authentication, and authorization.

• Drive modernization of identity systems, including OAuth2/OIDC and migration from LDAP to Okta.

• Design and enhance JPA/Hibernate data access layers, schema evolution, indexes, and queries.

• Set standards for testing, CI/CD, observability, logging, and alerting processes.

• Collaborate with QA, DevOps, Product, Architecture, and Regulatory teams.

• Provide mentorship to engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.

• Oversee the technical planning and execution of complex initiatives spanning multiple sprints.

• Diagnose production issues that impact performance, stability, and reliability.

• Ensure adherence to SOX and HIPAA compliance requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience with a significant focus on backend development.

• Expert-level knowledge in Java and Spring Boot, along with extensive experience in distributed systems.

• Proven experience in breaking down monolithic applications into microservices.

• Practical experience with AWS services including ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and IAM.

• Strong understanding of REST API design principles, authentication and authorization methodologies, and enterprise integration.

• Extensive experience with relational databases (MySQL/Aurora) and ORM frameworks such as Hibernate/JPA, including experience with query optimization.

• Proficient in Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native delivery methodologies.

• Established ability to guide technical direction and mentor engineers at various levels.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and architectural decision-making abilities.

• Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Preferred: Experience in healthcare, genomics, diagnostics, or other regulated sectors.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Okta or similar identity management solutions.

• Preferred: Basic knowledge of PHP/Symfony sufficient for refactoring legacy functionalities.

• Preferred: Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.

• Preferred: Understanding of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies.
