Founding Platform Engineer – Ruby on Rails

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +19 more states.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical roadmap for Platform Engineering.

• Design, build, and manage scalable backend services utilizing Ruby on Rails.

• Create and manage Kubernetes infrastructure, cloud architecture, and deployment pipelines.

• Enhance developer productivity through CI/CD, automation, internal tools, and engineering best practices.

• Develop and advance the AI platform, encompassing LLM orchestration, agent infrastructure, prompt management, evaluation pipelines, model routing, and AI observability.

• Oversee billing systems, including subscriptions, licensing, payments, usage metering, invoicing, and Stripe integrations.

• Design and uphold secure integrations with HRIS platforms, identity providers, and enterprise clients using REST APIs, OAuth, SAML, SCIM, and webhooks.

• Establish observability through logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and performance monitoring.

• Enhance platform scalability, security, reliability, and operational excellence.

• Lead architectural decisions that impact multiple engineering teams.

• Provide mentorship to engineers through technical leadership, design reviews, and adherence to engineering best practices.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across infrastructure, applications, and distributed systems.

• Establish and expand the Platform Engineering function.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Proficient in Ruby on Rails with a proven track record of building production SaaS applications.

• Strong experience with React and capability to work across the full stack.

• Extensive background in designing distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.

• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and cloud-native infrastructure.

• Significant experience in building and managing CI/CD pipelines and modern developer tools.

• Proven experience in owning production infrastructure that demands high availability and reliability.

• Skilled in designing and maintaining APIs and enterprise integrations.

• Strong grasp of SQL, database design, caching, background processing, and email/SMS notification systems.

• Experience in leading complex technical projects across multiple teams without direct people management.

• Excellent debugging, communication, and architectural design capabilities.

• Familiarity with AI-native products or internal AI platforms.

• Experience with LLMs, AI agents, prompt engineering, RAG, vector databases, and evaluation frameworks.

• Knowledge of Stripe or other subscription billing platforms.

• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform and Helm charts.

• Experience with event-driven architectures and distributed messaging systems, such as RabbitMQ, SQS, or NATS.

• Background working at a high-growth B2B SaaS company.

• Understanding of SOC 2, cloud security, and compliance best practices.

• Contributions to open-source projects or demonstrated technical thought leadership.
