Senior Software Engineer – Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design, architect, and implement Java and Spring Boot microservices throughout the platform.

• Establish and document the target-state architecture, service boundaries, and upgrade pathways.

• Lead the transition of legacy PHP/Symfony monolith functionalities into independently deployable Java services.

• Create and develop AWS-native solutions utilizing ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and Parameter Store.

• Develop and maintain secure REST APIs that include validation, error handling, authentication, and authorization.

• Spearhead identity modernization initiatives, encompassing OAuth2/OIDC and LDAP-to-Okta migration.

• Design and enhance data access layers using JPA/Hibernate, covering ORM mappings, schema evolution, indexing, and query optimization.

• Set standards for testing, CI/CD, observability, logging, and alerting processes.

• Collaborate with QA, DevOps, Product, Architecture, and Regulatory teams.

• Mentor engineers through code and design reviews as well as knowledge sharing.

• Oversee the technical planning and implementation of complex multi-sprint projects.

• Diagnose production issues impacting performance, stability, and reliability.

• Ensure compliance with SOX and HIPAA regulations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong emphasis on backend development.

• Expert-level knowledge in Java and Spring Boot, with extensive experience in distributed systems.

• Proven track record of decomposing monolithic applications into microservices.

• Practical experience with AWS services such as ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, and IAM.

• Strong expertise in REST API design, authentication, authorization patterns, and enterprise integration.

• Solid experience with relational databases (MySQL/Aurora) and ORM frameworks like Hibernate/JPA, including query optimization.

• Proficient in Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native delivery methodologies.

• Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction and mentor engineers at various levels.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.

• Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and architectural decision-making abilities.

• Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Preferred: Experience in healthcare, genomics, diagnostics, or other regulated sectors.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Okta or similar identity providers.

• Preferred: Working knowledge of PHP/Symfony.

• Preferred: Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.

• Preferred: Understanding of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) practices.
