Senior Software Engineer – Platform, Access & Authorization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage capabilities related to authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, two-factor authentication, account recovery, and edge authorization.

• Create secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services for Coinbase's web, mobile, API, and partner experiences.

• Ensure robust observability, conduct failure testing, and establish measurable Service Level Objectives (SLOs).

• Spearhead technical designs for signed authorization tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, device-aware authentication, and mobile OAuth integration.

• Collaborate with product, security, fraud, and infrastructure teams.

• Balance customer conversion efforts, account security, regulatory compliance, and engineering limitations.

• Streamline integration patterns and develop self-service tools for product teams.

• Guide engineers through design reviews, collaborative work, code evaluations, and on-call responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend software engineering.

• Strong expertise in Go or a similar systems-oriented programming language.

• Proven experience in building and maintaining reliable, high-throughput distributed services in a production environment.

• Background in designing secure APIs.

• Understanding of authentication, authorization, session management, trust boundaries, and token management.

• Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs, PKCE, or similar standards.

• Proficiency in gRPC and Protocol Buffers.

• Experience with Redis or DynamoDB.

• Strong operational experience utilizing metrics, logs, traces, alerts, and SLOs.

• Proven history of delivering complex, cross-functional projects from technical design to production deployment.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Responsible use of generative AI with appropriate human oversight.
