Senior Software Engineer – Mobile Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Develop the offline-first field inspection tablet application using React Native / Expo for iPadOS and Android enterprise tablets.

• Implement secure local storage for inspection checklists, violation logs, and draft reports.

• Facilitate barcode/QR credential scanning and capture digital signatures with a stylus.

• Enable photo evidence capture with timestamps and geotagging functionalities.

• Create a background data synchronization engine that operates between the device and the backend.

• Integrate Okta for authentication and ensure secure session management for devices deployed in the field.

• Provide unit and end-to-end test coverage.

• Engage in code reviews.

• Oversee the build and distribution pipeline for both platforms.

• Collaborate closely with the client’s technical lead, backend engineering team, and customer stakeholders from project initiation to final delivery.

• Take ownership of a feature area from start to finish with minimal oversight.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on React Native.

• Proven experience with at least one production application launched on the Apple App Store or Google Play, or via enterprise distribution.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

• Proficiency in React Native and TypeScript, including the Expo toolchain.

• Comfortable working within native iOS and Android environments (Xcode, Android Studio) to integrate, configure, and debug native modules.

• Knowledge of offline-first architecture: local SQLite storage, data encryption, and synchronization.

• Experience with device hardware integration: camera, barcode/QR scanning, signature capture, and GPS.

• Familiarity with authentication methods using OIDC/OAuth 2.0 (Okta or similar) and secure token storage.

• Competence in REST API integration with backend services.

• Experience in mobile testing with Jest and an end-to-end framework such as Detox or Maestro.

• Expertise in enterprise tablet deployment and mobile device management.

• Understanding of Google Cloud Platform services.

• Background in government or regulated environments.

• Knowledge of mobile accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).

• Experience with mobile CI/CD tools (EAS, Fastlane, GitHub Actions).

• Involvement in a contractor program that supports a state government professional licensing and regulatory compliance platform.
