Senior Software Engineer II – Developer Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and manage internal developer tools, platforms, and infrastructure.

• Enhance the productivity, reliability, and overall experience of engineering teams at Instacart.

• Take ownership of intricate technical projects from inception and architecture through to implementation, deployment, and iteration.

• Identify areas of friction in developer experience using data, feedback, and collaboration with engineering teams.

• Implement solutions that minimize unnecessary work and enhance engineering velocity on a large scale.

• Influence technical direction through participation in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions.

• Quickly adapt and make informed technical decisions in a dynamic and uncertain environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Expertise in one or more backend programming languages frequently utilized in platform or infrastructure settings, such as Go, Ruby, Python, Java, or similar.

• Proven experience in developing or contributing to developer tools, internal platforms, CI/CD systems, or infrastructure for developer productivity.

• Capability to independently lead technical projects, including defining scope, designing, and delivering solutions that have cross-functional impact.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical trade-offs.

• Preferred: experience in Developer Experience, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure teams.

• Preferred: knowledge of observability tools, build systems, or developer environment management tools such as Bazel, Docker, or Kubernetes.

• Preferred: experience in a rapidly growing technology organization.

• Preferred: a history of influencing engineering culture or establishing best practices.
