This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.
• Oversee Tailscale’s Developer Relations Engineering team and its strategic roadmap.
• Manage and nurture a high-performing team of Developer Relations Engineers through clear expectations, ownership, coaching, and constructive feedback.
• Lead the creation of integrations, example applications, open-source projects, demos, workshops, reference architectures, tutorials, and developer tools.
• Personally engage in high-impact technical projects by developing prototypes, reviewing code, debugging integrations, and producing working demos.
• Serve as a prominent technical ambassador for Tailscale through videos, presentations, demos, integrations, workshops, and community involvement.
• Ensure the Developer Relations Engineering outputs are technically sound, engaging, relevant, and consistent with product positioning.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Growth, Content, Sales, and Customer Success teams on launches, educational efforts, developer feedback, and product strategy.
• Identify opportunities within developer workflows and ecosystems, assisting in validation and prioritization.
• Act as a senior Developer Relations partner for significant launches and strategic initiatives.
• Define, monitor, and report on audience growth, engagement, product activation, integration adoption, and contributions to the self-serve funnel.
• Leverage developer insights and performance data to prioritize programs and showcase the value of investments.
• 6+ years of pertinent experience in Developer Relations, developer advocacy, engineering, or a related discipline.
• 2+ years of experience managing, mentoring, or leading technical contributors and scaling a DevRel or similar function.
• Solid software engineering foundation, encompassing production-quality code, APIs, developer tools, debugging, and working with unfamiliar technologies.
• Proven experience in building developer-centric technical projects such as integrations, SDK examples, reference applications, open-source tools, demos, workshops, or developer infrastructure from concept to launch and iteration.
• Capability to translate product and company priorities into a well-defined technical roadmap.
• Strong skills in program management, including planning, prioritization, delegation, and proactive communication of risks.
• Keen instincts for developer-product alignment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for articulating complex technical concepts.
• Experience in cross-functional collaboration with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Growth, Sales, or Customer Success teams.
• Ability to balance hands-on execution with team leadership and long-term program development.
• Familiarity with public codebases and developer ecosystems, including GitHub workflows, pull requests, issue discussions, technical feedback, and collaboration with external developers.
• Experience in defining and reporting on DevRel engineering metrics, program performance, or product/business outcomes.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and creating clarity through direct communication and documented plans.
• Low ego, high motivation, and a “yes, and” attitude towards collaboration.
• Familiarity with Tailscale as a user.
