Senior Software Engineer – Backend Engineering, Integrations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Design and develop microservices using Java 21 / Spring Boot on Cloud Run for licensing, case management, payments, documents, and notifications.

• Implement persistence with PostgreSQL (AlloyDB), focusing on row-level data isolation and search indexing.

• Create asynchronous event flows utilizing Pub/Sub and Eventarc.

• Set up scheduled and timer-based processing with Cloud Tasks and Cloud Scheduler.

• Write Cloud Workflows orchestrations for multi-service pipelines.

• Establish integrations with external state and federal systems using REST, SOAP, SFTP, and webhooks.

• Implement payment workflows, including the integration of hosted payment pages and settlement reconciliation.

• Ensure compliance with platform security and data isolation requirements, including encryption.

• Provide unit and integration test coverage, engage in code reviews, and assist in the CI/CD deployment of managed services.

• Collaborate closely with the client technical lead, mobile and frontend developers, and customer stakeholders from initial project definition to final delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional backend engineering experience with Java and Spring Boot.

• Experience delivering production applications on Google Cloud Platform.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

• Proficiency in Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.x microservice development.

• Expertise in PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, and versioned migrations.

• Familiarity with GCP serverless services such as Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Cloud Workflows, and Cloud Scheduler.

• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging patterns (idempotency, retries, dead-letter handling).

• Experience with external system integration using REST, SOAP, SFTP, and webhooks.

• Understanding of API security protocols including OAuth 2.0 / OIDC and JWT.

• Proficiency in automated testing (JUnit, integration tests) and CI/CD practices.

• Familiarity with workflow engines (Flowable, BPMN) and business rules engines.

• Experience with AlloyDB and BigQuery.

• Knowledge of payment processing integrations.

• Experience working in government or regulated environments (FIPS, CJIS, HIPAA).

• Possession of Google Cloud Professional certifications.
