Senior Software Engineer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop scalable systems for card issuing, transaction processing, and settlements.

• Create dependable integrations with Stripe, banking partners, and Zip's internal systems.

• Take ownership of intricate technical projects from design to production.

• Contribute to a distributed, event-driven backend architecture.

• Construct resilient payment systems that adhere to regulatory, compliance, and risk standards.

• Enhance production reliability, observability, and overall performance.

• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Infrastructure teams on technical trade-offs and project delivery.

• Elevate engineering quality through design and code reviews, as well as automated testing and development practices.

• Utilize AI-assisted development throughout the entire software lifecycle.

• Recognize practical uses for emerging AI technologies within engineering workflows.

• Mentor and assist engineers through pairing, code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 10 years of software engineering experience in designing, building, testing, and maintaining complex production systems.

• Extensive experience with .NET/C#, Azure Cloud Services, and distributed backend architectures.

• Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD), CQRS, and event-driven architecture.

• Proven experience in developing payment infrastructure, card issuing, or transaction processing systems, including Stripe Issuing, Marqeta, or similar in-house solutions.

• Capability to independently manage intricate technical initiatives from architecture and design through to production delivery.

• Strong knowledge of reliability, observability, automated testing, system performance, and production incident management.

• Experience with security, compliance, and operational considerations for mission-critical financial systems.

• Ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate across Engineering, Product, and technical/business teams.

• Background in mentoring engineers through code reviews, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in coding, testing, debugging, and resolving technical issues.

• Ability to assess and implement emerging AI capabilities in engineering workflows while maintaining quality, security, and sustainability.
