Senior Software Engineer, Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Develop essential endpoint functionalities and orchestrate distributed services for realistic offensive security and simulated user personas across cyber ranges.

• Design, create, and manage production software using Go, Python, and Kotlin for attack and user emulation frameworks.

• Create in-depth operating system integrations on both Windows and Linux platforms utilizing native OS APIs, session management, process execution, and system resources.

• Enhance reliability, security, testability, and observability within message-driven architectures functioning at scale.

• Address high-fidelity emulation challenges related to desktop/web automation, privilege boundaries, input simulation, and realistic user timing.

• Partner with backend, security, and AI engineering teams to establish reusable components and APIs.

• Perform code and design reviews, mentor team members, and elevate platform-level engineering practices.

• Gain familiarity with the Go endpoint agent and troubleshoot cross-platform OS behaviors within the first 30 days.

• Lead the implementation of a new endpoint emulation feature or native system integration within 60 days.

• Propel architectural advancements across distributed messaging and agent subsystems within 90 days.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of practical software engineering experience in delivering and maintaining production software.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Windows or Linux systems development below application-level abstractions, including native APIs, process/session management, eBPF, IPC, or security contexts.

• Strong command of Go, or proven proficiency in another systems programming language with the ability to quickly adapt to Go.

• Familiarity with JVM languages such as Kotlin or Java.

• Experience in message-driven, asynchronous architectures.

• Proficient in analyzing complex OS failure modes, balancing fidelity against complexity, and ensuring the stability of distributed systems.

• Preferred experience in developing production endpoint, monitoring, remote management, or EDR/security agents.

• Preferred experience with desktop/browser automation, accessibility APIs, or computer vision.

• Familiarity with hypervisors, VDI, endpoint security telemetry, adversary emulation, or AI-agent tool integration is a plus.

• Ability to primarily work during U.S. business hours as needed.

• Must be currently authorized to work in Costa Rica.

• Proficient in conducting business entirely in English.
