Backend Engineer, Repository Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design and implement secure, efficient, and well-tested features and enhancements utilizing Ruby and GraphQL.

• Navigate complex requirements and legacy systems while ensuring system reliability.

• Assist in the development of backend services, APIs, data models, and business logic for repository management.

• Collaborate effectively both asynchronously and synchronously across various functions and teams.

• Leverage AI agents for clearly defined tasks and critically evaluate their outputs.

• Produce maintainable code that adheres to GitLab standards and incorporate feedback from code reviews.

• Track production health metrics and engage in Tier 2 on-call responsibilities.

• Diagnose incidents, contribute to root cause analyses, and enhance observability and resilience.

• Disseminate knowledge through code reviews, technical documentation, and collaborative efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in developing backend web applications, services, or APIs.

• Proficiency in Ruby and GraphQL, or the willingness to learn them.

• Strong understanding of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, caching, background processing, and best practices for backend performance.

• Experience in contributing to features based on policy, permissions, or rules within web applications.

• Background in writing backend unit and integration tests.

• Familiarity with Git and collaborative code review methodologies.

• Experience with AI coding tools or agents and the ability to evaluate their outputs.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Ability to prioritize tasks, navigate ambiguity, take ownership, and seek guidance when necessary.

• Must be able to work effectively in a remote, asynchronous setting.
