Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Create API-first services, data models, and define system boundaries.

• Lead features from identifying user problems through the backend and data modeling to the UI and production stage.

• Develop product functionality utilizing LLM APIs and agentic components.

• Employ tool calling, evaluations, error management, and monitoring techniques.

• Take ownership of systems and ensure production quality via testing, CI/CD, and observability practices.

• Collaborate with educators to uncover their genuine needs.

• Make collaborative decisions alongside Product and Design teams.

• Design and manage APIs, data models, and services.

• Work in partnership with the founders, as well as the Product and Engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of three years of experience in developing and managing modern web applications.

• Preferably experienced with TypeScript, Node.js, and Next.js.

• Proven experience in designing and creating APIs, data models, and backend services.

• Strong expertise in API design, databases, and asynchronous processes.

• Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and monitoring is advantageous.

• Knowledge of React and Next.js is beneficial.

• Practical experience in building LLM-based features or API-driven agentic systems.

• Understanding of tool calling, common model failures, and quality assurance and monitoring for these functionalities.

• Ability to work with undefined requirements and take charge of systems in production.

• A product-oriented mindset with the capability to relate technical decisions to user needs.

• Fluent in German and highly proficient in English.
