Senior Software Engineer – Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable backend services and APIs for the issuance of stablecoins, encompassing minting and burning processes, supply management, and token configuration.

• Establish compliance controls such as freezing, unfreezing, quarantining, pausing, resuming, and implementing maker-checker approvals.

• Integrate backend services with smart contracts on EVM-compatible networks.

• Ensure reliable, idempotent, observable, and safe blockchain interactions, especially in failure scenarios.

• Develop event-driven services and signed webhooks to synchronize issuers, internal systems, and ledgers.

• Maintain thorough, tamper-proof audit trails and ensure accurate reconciliation with downstream accounting systems.

• Collaborate with teams focused on digital assets, ledgers, identity and access management, financial crime prevention, and security.

• Contribute to architectural decisions, review code, mentor engineers, and advocate for engineering best practices.

• Oversee production services, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and improvements in reliability and performance.

• Engage in an autonomous squad alongside Product, Design, and engineering teams to deliver customer-centric solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong and proven experience as a backend engineer in building production systems, preferably in Java; Kotlin experience is also welcome.

• Proficiency with Spring Boot.

• Practical experience in designing microservices and event-driven architectures, ideally using Kafka or similar messaging platforms.

• Experience in developing high-integrity transactional systems where correctness, idempotency, consistency, and auditability are vital.

• Ability to design clean, well-documented REST APIs.

• Familiarity with secure webhook integrations for external clients.

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.

• Knowledge of containerization and CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong understanding of secure coding practices, access control, and role-based permissions in regulated settings.

• Capability to take ownership of outcomes and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

• Utilization of AI tools and agentic workflows to enhance delivery speed and quality.

• Bonus: Experience with EVM-compatible networks, ERC-20 tokens, smart contract interactions, or Solidity.

• Bonus: Familiarity with stablecoin issuance, tokenization, custody, or wallet infrastructure.

• Bonus: Understanding of sanctions screening, Travel Rule, or other regulatory controls for digital assets.
