Senior Software Engineer – Backend, AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Design, create, test, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for analytics, dashboards, visualizations, and AI-generated insights.

• Develop services that process, aggregate, enrich, and deliver both structured and unstructured data.

• Create APIs and data services that are optimized for dashboards, visualizations, reporting interfaces, and customer-facing applications.

• Empower users to explore, filter, compare, drill down into, and comprehend complex datasets and insights.

• Develop services that support AI-generated summaries, recommendations, trends, anomalies, and intelligent analytics experiences.

• Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to integrate models and AI-generated outputs.

• Partner with frontend engineers and UX teams to define service interfaces and data structures.

• Work alongside data engineers to establish dependable data flows across source systems, analytical platforms, AI capabilities, visualization services, and downstream applications.

• Convert customer and business requirements into scalable technical solutions in collaboration with product managers and engineering teams.

• Contribute to technical design decisions regarding backend services, analytics APIs, data models, processing workflows, caching strategies, and integrations.

• Enhance data access, aggregation, service performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

• Write high-quality, maintainable, and testable code while participating in code and design reviews.

• Troubleshoot intricate issues across backend services, analytics workflows, data processing, and frontend integrations.

• Integrate monitoring, logging, testing, and observability into production services.

• Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to ensure reliable deployment and operation.

• Stay updated with advancements in AI, analytics, data visualization, data processing, and backend development technologies.

• Engage in continuous improvement initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.

• Proven experience in developing backend applications and services.

• Strong expertise in one or more backend programming languages and their associated frameworks.

• Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs, microservices, or other service-oriented applications.

• Understanding of software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and concepts in distributed systems.

• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.

• Proven experience processing, transforming, aggregating, or serving large volumes of data.

• Experience in developing backend services or APIs for data-rich, interactive applications.

• Proven track record in building and maintaining scalable, reliable production applications.

• Understanding of data modeling, aggregation, filtering, querying, and analytics application patterns.

• Familiarity with AWS or Azure and cloud-based application architectures.

• Knowledge of automated testing, CI/CD, source control, and contemporary software development practices.

• Understanding of application performance and the ability to optimize services and data access.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and capability to independently resolve complex technical challenges.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across backend, frontend, AI/ML, data, UX, and product teams.

• Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies and frameworks.
