Senior Software Development Manager, Computer Backup

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Direct the entire Computer Backup engineering team via Desktop and Backend Leads.

• Establish the long-term technical vision for Backblaze Computer Backup.

• Take charge of the multi-quarter delivery framework and collaborate with Product leadership on the roadmap, scope, schedule, and priorities.

• Oversee the team’s budget and expenditures, including headcount, tools, and infrastructure investments.

• Make pivotal technical and organizational decisions impacting shared platforms and infrastructure.

• Ensure both desktop and backend teams work collaboratively towards unified goals and maintain consistent agile delivery.

• Supervise agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, and retrospectives.

• Manage delivery across client and backend from planning and design to implementation and post-launch support.

• Guarantee the reliability, performance, and maintainability of backup client and backend services.

• Enhance unit testing and automate test coverage.

• Actively participate in code reviews, architectural decisions, and technical problem-solving.

• Advocate for AI-assisted development tools and agentic coding methodologies.

• Boost team productivity through improvements in processes, tools, and practices.

• Engage in negotiations with senior leadership and key customers, represent the team in executive reviews, and communicate risks and trade-offs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in engineering management.

• Proven experience in managing managers or team leads.

• Background in cloud, SaaS, desktop software, or platform engineering environments.

• Experience in defining long-term technical direction and system architecture for a scaling product or platform.

• Proven track record of owning multi-quarter technical and delivery strategies and contributing to product roadmaps.

• Experience in negotiating scope, schedules, and priorities with product and senior leadership.

• Accountability for departmental or team budgets, including resource allocation and investment decisions.

• Extensive experience with agile development methodologies, including scrum, sprint planning, backlog management, estimation, and retrospectives.

• Demonstrated experience managing distributed, remote engineering teams, with a strong emphasis on asynchronous communication and remote collaboration.

• Strong software engineering foundation with significant expertise in system architecture.

• Solid understanding of the complete software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to deployment and production support.

• Commitment to engineering excellence, including unit testing and automated test coverage.

• Experience delivering software for desktop clients, backend services, or both.

• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.

• Familiarity with AI agentic coding tools like Claude Code and Codex is a plus.
