Engineering Manager, Platform Security

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee a team of software engineers in identifying and pursuing significant opportunities to mitigate security risks throughout Engineering.

• Influence the overarching security strategy of the organization.

• Lead a highly self-sufficient and horizontally integrated group of software engineers.

• Establish and implement secure standards for cloud infrastructure while taking responsibility for the security of all cloud environments.

• Manage infrastructure vulnerabilities while providing support to an engineering organization with hundreds of developers.

• Safeguard both first- and third-party software supply chains from development through CI/CD into production.

• Create and maintain user-friendly identity and access management systems for individuals and machines that adhere to the principle of least privilege.

• Provide consultation on risk assessments, architectural designs, threat models, code reviews, and related activities while balancing security considerations with business needs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience as a people manager, having led a team of 3 or more security software engineers.

• A strong commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive teams and mentoring engineers.

• More than 3 years of experience in securing systems with millions of users.

• Ability to draft the roadmap rather than merely adhering to one.

• Experience in building and securing cloud environments using GCP, Cloudflare, and AWS.

• Advanced reasoning skills regarding the security of complex systems, including unfamiliar components.

• Proficient in writing software using a general-purpose programming language; Discord primarily utilizes Python, TypeScript, and Rust.

• Background in developing with agentic AI and a solid understanding of AI security practices.

• Knowledge of contemporary authentication and authorization concepts, including RBAC, OAuth, Zero Trust network architectures, and mTLS.

• Familiarity with build and CI/CD technologies such as Terraform, Bazel, Buildkite, and Spacelift.

• Experience in defining and orchestrating containers and serverless workloads, including Kubernetes, Docker, Distroless, OCI, and Cloudflare Workers.

• Experience in managing and operationalizing security platforms like Wiz.
