Senior Software Development Engineer – Test

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Finland, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design and develop scalable testing systems, platforms, and infrastructure that mirror real-world production environments.

• Create software and tools to assess application performance, reliability, scalability, and infrastructure behavior under high traffic loads.

• Establish and uphold load, performance, stress, and synthetic testing capabilities for applications that cater to millions of users worldwide.

• Develop testing environments and procedures that ensure new code and infrastructure can successfully scale in production.

• Write high-quality code in TypeScript, Python, or other similar languages to create testing tools, automation, and supporting systems.

• Design tests to detect performance bottlenecks related to latency, bandwidth, application speed, infrastructure capacity, and resource utilization.

• Embed automated testing and quality validation into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.

• Collaborate with cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure across platforms like AWS, Cloudflare, Google Cloud, or similar providers.

• Utilize Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or equivalent technologies to facilitate repeatable and scalable testing environments.

• Work closely with platform engineers to grasp system architecture, production behavior, and infrastructure limitations.

• Analyze test outcomes and production-like workloads to pinpoint scalability risks before alterations affect real-world traffic.

• Contribute to establishing the technical standards, systems, and procedures for a new engineering-centric testing function.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive professional software engineering experience with the capability to independently design, develop, and maintain software systems.

• Proficient coding skills in TypeScript, Python, or other modern programming languages.

• Experience in constructing automated testing systems, engineering tooling, testing infrastructure, or similar software-driven quality solutions.

• Practical experience with load testing, performance testing, stress testing, synthetic testing, or large-scale application validation.

• Background in working with applications or platforms that serve millions of users or visitors, especially at multi-million or tens-of-millions scale.

• Familiarity with cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure utilizing AWS, Google Cloud, Cloudflare, or comparable platforms.

• Strong comprehension of DevOps, platform engineering, infrastructure, scalability, and modern software deployment methodologies.

• Experience with CI/CD and the integration of automated validation into continuous integration and deployment workflows.

• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Pulumi, or similar technologies.

• Solid understanding of application performance concepts, including latency, bandwidth, throughput, scalability, reliability, and infrastructure optimization.

• Ability to independently investigate complex technical issues and devise solutions with minimal supervision.

• Excellent written and verbal English skills, enabling effective communication of technical decisions and collaboration with a distributed engineering team.

• Preferred: Experience in supporting globally distributed applications that serve tens of millions of monthly visitors.

• Preferred: Experience with high-traffic e-commerce platforms or other large-scale consumer-facing applications.

• Preferred: Experience working with custom or internally developed platforms rather than primarily testing third-party or off-the-shelf software.

• Preferred: Experience in optimizing applications or infrastructure where speed, latency, bandwidth, and infrastructure cost are critical factors.

• Preferred: Experience in building testing infrastructure or frameworks from the ground up rather than primarily operating within established QA systems.

• Preferred: Background in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, performance engineering, or infrastructure engineering.

• Preferred: Experience in fast-paced startup or lean engineering environments where engineers possess significant ownership and autonomy.
