Staff Software Engineer – Test System Modernization

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee a significant capability across various teams and shape technical direction beyond the immediate organization.

• Spearhead the modernization of a large-scale embedded software testing system.

• Establish and enhance a standardized, fully automated, headless framework across both virtual and physical environments.

• Facilitate comprehensive testing multiple times a day.

• Outline the architecture and roadmap for standardized test execution, configuration and variation management, traceability, quality gates, regression selection, and results reporting.

• Implement change-impact analysis and risk-based regression strategies utilizing Gears, Pure Variants, or equivalent tools.

• Standardize test-result schemas, metadata, diagnostics, and artifacts.

• Enable data storage in Databricks for analytics, trend analysis, data mining, and reporting purposes.

• Create APIs and integrations that connect test execution, test management, issue tracking, failure triage, and diagnostic tools.

• Enhance test robustness, failure triage, execution speed, and deployment efficiency across CI/CD pipelines and both physical and virtual test environments.

• Identify opportunities, strategies, and process improvements while leading organizational change.

• Drive high-impact, hands-on initiatives.

• Coach and mentor team members.

• Analyze complex and challenging problems.

• Link multiple initiatives to provide greater value.

• Envision required innovation, learning, and simplification and guide the team in execution.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent practical experience.

• Typically, 10 or more years of experience validating software systems, including significant experience in leading architecture across organizations.

• Profound understanding of software architecture for real-time systems.

• Experience in delivering high-quality safety-critical products.

• Background in architecting large-scale CI/CD, embedded test automation, and build-to-test pipelines.

• Expertise in variation management, configuration comparison, change-impact analysis, and risk-based regression testing.

• Experience with test-result data modeling, Databricks, analytics, data mining, and API development.

• Proficient in embedded systems, Linux, Git, Python, Bash, Robot Framework, containers, and infrastructure as code.

• Proven ability to integrate automated diagnostics and issue-management workflows.

• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with great attention to detail.

• Demonstrated capability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced setting.

• Proven ability to operate in an action-oriented decision-making environment.

• A valid motor vehicle report review is necessary for eligibility for the company vehicle evaluation program.
