Senior Server – Scala Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design and sustain the QAD Redzone API Backend utilizing Scala.

• Create and maintain the MCP server to facilitate AI integrations and improve internal tools.

• Enhance OpenSearch utilization within the backend application.

• Fulfill delivery commitments made during sprints to meet business objectives.

• Utilize the latest Scala and web technologies to stay competitive.

• Offer subject matter expertise during incidents to swiftly resolve customer issues.

• Engage in forums, pursue interests beyond sprint tasks, and contribute ideas for system enhancements.

• Assist the team and broader organization in achieving their objectives.

• Develop testable and maintainable code.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience as a Backend Engineer.

• At least 5 years of experience with Scala.

• Proficiency in Java.

• Experience with API-first design using OpenAPI Specification (OAS).

• Familiarity with generating Tapir endpoints and models from OAS.

• Knowledge in maintaining versioned API contracts.

• Experience in transforming objects with Chimney.

• Proficiency in asynchronous programming with Cats Effect.

• Experience in publishing and consuming Avro-formatted Kafka messages.

• Skills in relational table design using PostgreSQL.

• Experience with transactional database access using Slick or Doobie.

• Understanding of database migration patterns, including expansion and contraction.

• Ability to write observable and testable code using Specs2 and ScalaMock.

• Comfortable with refactoring and developing within large legacy codebases.

• A modular programming mindset.

• Experience with Trunk-Based Development.

• Familiarity with LaunchDarkly feature flagging.

• Knowledge of CI/CD practices.

• Experience with GitHub Actions.

• Proficient in AWS Cloud services.

• Experience with Kubernetes (EKS).

• Familiarity with Docker.

• Must be currently residing in the UK.
