Senior Scrum Master

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Facilitate and lead effective Scrum and Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, iteration planning, iteration reviews, and retrospectives.

• Ensure that events are meaningful, well-organized, inclusive, and yield clear decisions, action items, or commitments to improvement.

• Coach teams on Scrum, Kanban, Lean-Agile principles, self-organization, collaboration, continuous improvement, and efficient delivery practices.

• Foster a safe, trusting, and inclusive team environment.

• Collaborate with Product Owners to enhance backlog health, prioritization, refinement, sprint readiness, PI Planning readiness, and alignment with customer and business outcomes.

• Assist teams in establishing meaningful sprint objectives and enhancing delivery predictability, quality, flow, and accountability.

• Identify, comprehend, monitor, escalate, and aid in the removal of impediments, risks, dependencies, and organizational barriers.

• Lead structured problem-solving discussions to address delivery challenges.

• Safeguard the team from unnecessary disruptions while ensuring transparency with stakeholders and leadership.

• Utilize Jira and other Agile tools to maintain delivery information and communicate metrics, trends, risks, dependencies, and progress.

• Leverage delivery metrics to promote transparency, learning, and improvement.

• Facilitate retrospectives and guide teams in following through on improvement commitments.

• Coordinate with engineering leaders, managers, architects, business partners, and other Scrum Masters to tackle cross-team challenges.

• Represent the team in Coach Sync, ART Sync, and other ART-level coordination events.

• Assist teams in preparing for and participating in PI Planning.

• Collaborate with Senior Scrum Masters and Agile practitioners to exchange practices and enhance team and organizational agility.

• Contribute to the Lean-Agile Office’s business agility roadmap and First American Trust’s Agile operating model.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5-7 years of experience implementing Scrum and Agile methodologies as a Scrum Master for an agile software delivery team.

• Preferably 1-2 years of experience with the Scaled Agile Framework.

• Experience in coaching Agile teams of varying sizes, maturity levels, and delivery contexts.

• Strong understanding of Scrum, Kanban, Lean-Agile principles, and continuous improvement methodologies.

• Proven ability to lead Scrum events and cultivate environments that encourage participation, accountability, transparency, and psychological safety.

• Experience in coaching teams and Product Owners on Agile practices, backlog health, collaboration, and effectiveness in delivery.

• Demonstrated capability to identify, escalate, and resolve impediments, delivery risks, dependencies, and organizational barriers.

• Strong knowledge of backlog management, prioritization, refinement, sprint planning, sprint goals, and outcome-driven delivery.

• Moderate to expert-level proficiency with Jira or similar Agile delivery tools.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences and senior leadership.

• Strong facilitation, conflict-resolution, negotiation, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to influence without formal authority and operate effectively in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.

• Certified ScrumMaster or SAFe Advanced Scrum Master certification is mandatory.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or related fields.
