This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.
β’ Take the lead in the design and ownership of in-house SCADA monitoring and control systems for large-scale renewable energy projects.
β’ Create designs and documentation utilizing AutoCAD, Visio, and other design software.
β’ Establish, document, and enhance SCADA design standards and best practices.
β’ Oversee scope reviews and gather cross-functional requirements.
β’ Produce, review, and authorize communications diagrams, networking port maps, power diagrams, and equipment bills of materials.
β’ Examine SCADA drawing sets and generate redline annotations.
β’ Act as the main technical escalation point for intricate SCADA configurations and design challenges.
β’ Guide junior and mid-level engineers in their professional development.
β’ Work closely with the Operational Technology team to define server and networking hardware requirements.
β’ Propel standardization and process enhancements to minimize design and commissioning efforts.
β’ Create project documentation, including block diagrams, elevations, fiber routing and splicing, and equipment wiring diagrams.
β’ Develop training materials for staff and stakeholders.
β’ Provide updates on project status and conduct risk assessments.
β’ Advocate for NERC compliance and governance practices.
β’ Lead research initiatives focused on SCADA equipment and emerging technologies.
β’ Represent SCADA design in client meetings and technical evaluations.
β’ Collaborate with third-party integrators during the assembly of SCADA racks and field network enclosures.
β’ Facilitate and present system design reviews during customer-witnessed SCADA headend Factory Acceptance Tests.
β’ Coordinate efforts with customers, utility representatives, and field technicians for commissioning and installation assistance.
β’ Support operations and asset management teams throughout the project handoff process.
β’ 6β8 years of engineering experience or equivalent qualifications.
β’ Background in renewable energy, particularly in utility-scale PV solar, BESS, or wind is preferred.
β’ Direct experience in SCADA engineering is essential.
β’ Proven experience in drafting SCADA, networking, electrical, or substation engineering drawing sets.
β’ Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
β’ In-depth understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking principles and architectures.
β’ Extensive knowledge of SCADA network design, installation, and commissioning, including fiber optics, Serial RS-232/RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
β’ Strong familiarity with industrial automation protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA, and OPC DA.
β’ Comprehensive knowledge of power-system, networking and control, electrical, mechanical, and civil diagrams and schematics.
β’ Advanced understanding of power plant operating procedures and control-system interactions with Regional Compliance Entities, Independent System Operators, Transmission Operators, and Generator Operators.
β’ Ability to collaborate effectively with subcontractors and field personnel.
β’ Proficient in project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
β’ Exceptional communication skills.
β’ A degree in electrical, mechanical, or energy engineering is preferred.
β’ Must possess legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship, either now or in the future.
